With the same stuff.Create your resume nowAlso, check out our guides for related positions: truck driver resume, delivery driver resume, bus driver resume and our warehouse resume guides.1Whats the Best Format for a Logistics Resume?Logistics means tons of paperwork. What distinguishes one document from the other is its structureSome are eye-friendly, others make you want to swear. Its the same here on your logistics resumeyouve got to plan how this paperwork will be structured.(Otherwise there might be a lot of swearing.)The resume format is that framework.Use the reverse-chronological format, because its a crowd pleaser. Employers, HR managers, recruiters, and ATS software alike can all easily understand this resume layout.Going reverse-chron means simply adding your most recent entry first, and goin g backwards in time from there. Go this way about all sections of your resume.Pro Tip: Most of the time, your supply chain manager resume will have the logistics experience section at the top, just under your resume intro statement. If you dont have experience relevant to logistics, boost the education section to the top.Not sure about using the reverse-chronological format for your supply chain specialist resume?See our guide: How to Choose the Best Resume Format.2Logistics Resume Summary or Resume Objective? The logistics manager will only scan your resume in less than 10 seconds, intitially. You know what that means?Like a forklift reaching high into the racks to bring down a tricky pallet, you need to hook them just right.Thats where your heading statement comes into play, just below your contact info. You have two options:Logistics Resume SummaryIf you have experience on logistics (e.g., in military logistic departments) or supply chain jobs, then use the resume summary. In a summa ry statement, your inventory control and transport experience gets summarized to introduce you and highlight key past achievements.Dont create some generic statement which can apply to any company.Tailor it to this specific position, and use numbers and quantifiable achievements to prove you are as you say.It should come out to a short paragraph 2-4 sentences in length. Here are two example summaries on logistics manager resumes:rightDependable inventory control specialist with 4+ years expertise in a fast-paced distribution center for a large city. Achieved company-highest accuracy rating (99.72%) and lowest shrinkage (0.03%), and eager to continue those wins over at Brooklyn Distribution.wrongIve been a specialist of inventory control for several years now. I am familiar with logistics duties, including ordering, returns, and traffic management procedures. This Wrong resume example doesnt prove how well you can carry logistics tasks out. That Right resume sample serves this purpose w ellit gives numbers of key accomplishments and is written specifically for this one job.Logistics Resume ObjectiveIf you lack experience related to logistics, inventory control, or the supply chain, create a resume objective statement.Again, you still need to tailor it to the position and use numbers to prove your worth. Here are two sample supply chain resume objectives:rightHard-working barista with 2+ years experience in high-volume caf, including stockroom inventory and ordering comestibles, in addition to front-of-house duties. Seeking to transfer top inventory regional audit score (99.79%) to a position as a supply chain specialist at Brooklyn Distribution.wrongI am a barista who would love to work in logistics. Though I dont have logistical experience, I can make a mean cup of coffee, which would benefit anyone in the breakroom. The difference?Deftly highlighted inventory control experience and accomplishments. And to think a barista role didnt seem to have anything to do with s upply chain management, at first!Pro Tip: The objective or summary statement goes at the top of your resume, but, if youre having trouble, hold off writing it until the end.We are stocked up with more advice and examples of resume summaries and career objective statements. Check out our guides: Professional Resume Summary Examples that Work and Career Objective Examples for Resumes to Use.When making a resume in our builder, drag drop bullet points, skills, and auto-fill the boring stuff. That was the best document Ive ever laid eyes upon!Thats the reaction you want from the employer after reading your resume. How to achieve that?Stimulate their curiosity:Experienced Logistics Specialist Resume ExampleIf you had a job in logistics in the past, youve got a leg up when writing a resume. Still, include only the best logistics responsibilities that match the companys or departments interests.Take a look at these supply chain specialist resume samples:rightLogistics SpecialistJanuary 2014December 2017The Halfway Hub DC, New York, NYKey Qualifications ResponsibilitiesTutored newly-hired inventory specialists on logistical procedures.Assisted truck yard with traffic and tractor-trailer management.Encouraged timely and relevant audits and inventory procedures as necessary.Key AchievementsIdentified new unloading solution which led to a demurrage reduction of 17%Assisted logistics manager with delivery software administration, reducing workload by 19%wrongLogistics SpecialistJanuary 2014December 2017The Halfway Hub DC, New York, NYKey ResponsibilitiesCoordinated trailer yard traffic.Helped train new inventory control staff.Handled logistics and financial matters.Saying youre responsible is not good enough; youve got to show them how well you perfor med your responsibilities with numbers and key achievements.Sample Resume With No Logistics ExperienceNever worked near a loading bay before? No problem.Simply show them youre the priority shipment if you dont have a logistics background:rightShift SupervisorJanuary 2013-December 2015Queens Caf, Astoria, NYKey ResponsibilitiesEncouraged team members to liaise with backroom to ensure restock efficiency.Managed inventory through placing orders for products and accessories.Accommodated vendors with stock queries and product launches.Key AchievementsIdentified alternative queuing solution which led to a wait reduction of 8%.Collaborated with store manager on implementing new stock demand, increasing sales by 49%.See what we did there?Being a caf shift supervisor seems worlds away from a job in logistics. ButWhen you think about it, there are always transferable skills and duties to list.Pro Tip: While youre writing your inventory management resume, keep the job description out and open i n front of you. This way, youll be able to use the listing to guide what youre putting down.Need some more ideas on the right achievements to put on a logistics specialist resume? Check out this guide: How to Put Achievements on a Resume.4Is Your Education Section Lost in Transit? It Might BeLike a cluttered backroom, the education section is a waste of space, right?Think again. The education section is vital for inventory planning positions. If you are looking for a more senior position, most require degrees. And, if youre going for an entry-level logistics position, the education section is even more important, as you dont have relevant work history. So, how to add education to a logistics resume? If youve completed a degree:BA in Supply Chain ManagementPace University, New York, NYBut what if you are still completing your university degree? If your degree is still in progress:Majoring in Supply Chain ManagementManhattan College, New York, NYExpected Graduation in 2020And what if all yo u have is your high school diploma?Style your high school like this:Landmark High School, New York, NYGraduated in 2008If youve completed a higher degree, dont add your high school. However, if youre working toward your college degree, add your high school as a second entry below.Pro Tip: We skipped the GPA. Why? Unless its super close to a 4.0, itll just degrade your resume rather than help it.Would you like more ways on how you can make the best use of your supply chain management resume education area? Then check out: How to Put Education on a Resume.5How to Put Skills on a Logistic Specialist ResumeListing key skills on your resume will get you the interview. But, what skills are logistics managers looking for?Soft and hard skills, thats for sure!Hard skills are those you can quantify and measure (e.g., Backroom Management Suite 5000 software).Soft skills are abilities you pick up throughout life (e.g., problem solving). Here are some examples:Logistical Skills for a ResumeLogistic s Resume SkillsLogistics Hard SkillsLogistics Soft SkillsInventory Management SoftwareAttention to DetailTruck Loading/UnloadingTime ManagementTractor-Trailer Traffic CoordinationMultitaskingCustoms DocumentationAnalytical SkillsForklift MaintenanceTeamworkPurchase OrderingProblem SolvingBut wait a sec.Rather than trying to think of which software this company uses and which skills they prioritize, look at the job description. Its all in there.Take a look at the sample of logistics specialist job description skills and requirements:Continually optimize the processes around managing Import/Export order management including potential pricing bid design, review and reporting with Logistics Management [1]Accountable for cost management and some rate negotiation in addition to securing the proper agreements and documentation necessary for department guidelines.Forecast and control transportation spend with annual improvements each year [2]Evaluate and develop plans to raise service metric s and lead regular carrier reviewsParticipate and contribute in regular department meetings, goals, objectives, forecasting and budgeting process [3]Interact with chosen TMS solutions partners on a regular basisThats an actual logistics specialist job description. Here are two professional resume samples of skills sections:rightExceptional understanding of Logistics Management application[1]Ability to accurately predict transportation budget for upcoming quarters[2]Terrific participation record and interdepartmental communication[3]wrongInventory softwareSupply chain skillsLoading and unloadingSee that? With the job ad at your side, you have everything you need to write the perfect supply chain skills section.Pro Tip: If youre adding skills that arent asked for in the job description, just make sure its relevant to logistics and supply chain management.Want more tips for writing the perfect resume skills list for logisticians? Personal Brands Clap, Laugh, Yell Bravo - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
Personal Brands Clap, Laugh, Yell Bravo - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Paid to clap? Paid to wait at a stage door and clamor for autographs? Paid to laugh, gasp and otherwise do the right thing in the audience? Yes. Itâs a job. At the Moscow Bolshoi ballet, you may find yourself sitting among those who show up to admire, in exchange for free tickets and other goodies. Itâs choreography you donât expect, because itâs not on the stage with the dancers. Itâs near the stage in the audience, sitting among regular ballet goers, who apparently need to be led into the appropriate high culture mob behavior. These professional fans are called âclaqueurs,â part of an old tradition of seeding an audience with shills, found in most theatrical productions up through the first half of the twentieth century. Still alive in Russia. If youâve ever mistakenly clapped during the silence between movements in a philharmonic composition, you might welcome the leadership. âClaqueursâ are like a preemptive strike against a mondegreen, which often reveals itself when you are singing the wrong words to a familiar song at the top of your lungs. I was once treated to a lusty version of âOne Ton Tomato,â by a client in Dallas, which led to an argument with his colleague, who insisted it was âJuan Tanamera.â Actually, itâs âGuantanamera,â a patriotic Cuban song made famous in the US by Pete Seeger and a group called the Sandpipers. Of mondegreens and other embarrassments, I was in cheerleading camp a long, long, long time ago, when the cheer coach stopped in front of my waving arms as I implored the imaginary football team to: âAnnihilate, amonphon, grind âem in the dirt, kill!â With that mean girlâs smirk on her face, Mrs. Cheer said, âHold it,â sounding like John Wayne arriving at a dusty main street filled with cowboys drunkenly shooting off Colt .44s. âWhat are you saying?â I weakly repeated my entreaty, which as a freshman (freshperson?) I assumed contained one of many words that I could not yet define. âNo,â she admonished me in front of 99 other girls who now were doing that staring, mock horrified, youâre not going to make the squad, which is so good for me wiggle. âItâs âstomp on them.â Not âamonphon.ââ I have lived with this mistake for many years and as a paid public speaker, I wish it were the worst and last mistake I ever made in front of people. Itâs not. Itâs far exceeded by my asking Lee Iaccoca if both his daughters were girls, on a live broadcast when I hosted International Business on public radio. In fact, I have made so many mistakes out loud, I consider them part of my personal brand. They are part of the humorous condition called being human, live and unedited. So, the idea of having someone who knows what to do at the right time, or what to say when itâs called for? It appeals to me. Perhaps you have this person in your life. Maybe itâs a parent. An older sibling. A senior colleague at work. Your boss. A friend who is a few steps ahead of you on the path. Or, maybe itâs a teacher. Yes, a teacher is in many ways a claqueur. Which is to reveal the other part of the claqueurâs job: to discourage poor performance, to withhold applause or regard when the performance falls short. In this recent era where self-esteem has been more treasured and encouraged than hard work and developing talent, it goes against the grain to discourage poor performers. We are inundated with pundits pushing the no-hard-work agenda, like how no one needs college â" just go out and be an entrepreneur! Anything that should be done, can be done in four hours a week! All the wisdom you need: you were born with! Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion! If you hear nothing but applause, laughter and bravo? You are getting half the feedback you need, even if thatâs feedback you donât want to hear. All personal brands have two types of characteristics. Those that are your strengths, and those throwing a shadow on your brand. If you donât invite us to comment or correct whatâs not working, your career may be short-lived and the world will be short changed of what could be your big contribution. How To Demonstrate Expertise When You Have No Experience - Career Pivot
How To Demonstrate Expertise When You Have No Experience - Career Pivot Expertise but No Experience I have been hearing the mantra, âI have a lot of expertise but no experience. How do I get people to give me a chance?â You may be pivoting into a new area where you have a lot of expertise from that Masters degree you just attained, you have life skills or maybe you have studied the topic on the side and now you want to apply it. Your problem is you have not a lot of real-world experience. Every job description you read says it requires 3 years experience in the topic area that you have expertise in but no experience. So how do you demonstrate your expertise when you have no experience? How do you get hiring managers to take notice and give you a chance? The idea for this post came from the Problogger Podcastepisode #247 called247: How To Create A Blog On A Topic Youâre Not An Expert In. The theme of this podcast aligns perfectly with how you demonstrate your expertise when you have no experience. Show Me Donât Tell Me You Know Your Stuff When you have minimal or no experience you will need to demonstrate in some form that you know your stuff. In my post,How Do I Know That You Know Your Stuff?I show a number of ways for you to be able to do this but this post, I am going to focus on creating a blog. Darren Rowse aka Probloggerdescribes are eight different kinds of content you can create but I am going to discuss six of them: Personal stories Case studies Interviews News items Curated content Research results Let me take you through each category and give you some examples. Personal Stories Darren asks âWhat can you witness to?â For those of us in the 2nd half of life, we have a wealth of experience. Write about your personal experiences. When I started Career Pivot I wrote a 31-part series on how I made my six career pivots. I had no credentials, formal education or training in a career change or pivoting. I wrote about mypersonal experiences. By the way, I have deleted most of that series as with most bloggers, my early posts were not very good. However, I have written a whole series of posts on my failures. Check out: My 3 Biggest Career Mistakes Recovering from My 3 Biggest Career Mistakes I take you on my career journey and it has not always been pleasant. My readers have told me they most relate to this kind of content. Tell us about your journey to get to where you are today. Telling the world about your journey demonstrates your expertise. Case Studies What are other people doing? Case studies are a great way to demonstrate your expertise. Find a topic in your area of expertise and write a critique. A gentleman in my Career Pivot online community (you can learn more about this project by clicking here),is working on making a pivot into virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) industry. Just last week he contacted a VR podcaster and asked if he could help him with his podcast. Last week he was on an episode where he discussed with the podcast host the features of one of the hot new VR headsets. After I finished listening to the episode, my only reaction was âwow this guy knows his stuff.â You could write a review of a book. Find a book in your area of expertise and write a thoughtful review. A good example of this is on this blogPrepare Now to be Healthy and Happy in Old Age [Book Review]where Pam Willenzreviewed the Joy Loverdeâs book, âWho Will Take Care of Me When Iâm Old? Plan Now to Safeguard Your Health and Happiness in Old Ageâ. Interviews I know, I know you are thinking who would let me interview them? You would be surprised at how many times I am approached for an interview of one kind or another and if it is easy enough, I usually will say âyes.â Darren Rowse tells the story of Michael Stelznerwho runs the mega conference Social Media Marketing Worldand created the website Social Media Examiner. In the beginning, Michael would just show up at conferences with a video camera and approach speakers for a short interview. He looked polished and professional so that speakers usually said âyes.â In reality, Michael did not know a lot about social media. He was still learning but he was able to produce a lot of great material which gained him credibility. I told the story ofDaniel Elizaldein the post,Changing Industries to Smart Gridabout how Daniel interviewed influencers in the smart grid industry to gain credibility. Daniel has since moved on but the visibility and the knowledge he gained have proved invaluable. Another good example is my good friend Jim Peacockwith Peak Careers. Jim regularly interviews career thought leaders via video conferencing. He records the interview, uploads it to his YouTube channeland creates blog posts with the videos embedded. News You can write about events, new products, technology innovations, or anything else that makes news in your area of expertise. Do not just write about what is happening but interject your opinions and thoughts. The point here is to demonstrate your expertise, so you will have to put yourself out there which can open you up for criticism. Curated Content Curate content from around the Internet on a regular basis and present it in a blog post. The best at this is my good friend Hannah Morgan aka the Career Sherpa. Hannah produces a Summary Sunday post every week where she curates career content. Hannah has been doing this for years and has developed a lot of key relationships with others in the industry by sharing other peopleâs content. She creates good Karma and at the same time demonstrating expertise. Darren suggests that you add your opinion or take the topic a little deeper. Another option is adding embeddable content to a post. A classical example is to add a YouTube video to your material. I did this recently with my post Our Perceptions of Ourselves and Others and Their Impactwhere I used a video produced by Birkman International. Research Results Did you write a thesis to get your new Mastersâ degree? If so use that to demonstrate expertise. Is there a topic that you would like to research? Go ahead, research the topic, and write a comprehensive blog post. A good example of this is my post â"Strategic Networking Playbook â" Who, How and When! It was a topic that I wanted to research and then write a comprehensive article to demonstrate expertise. Hard Work and Being Bold This is going to be hard work and you will have to put yourself out there. You may get criticism but be willing to engage with your readers. If you want to demonstrate your expertise you will have to be bold. Producing a blog to demonstrate your expertise is hard work. Are there other ways to demonstrate your expertise? Sure! You could produce videos like Alexander Buschekor create a podcast like my good friendsMark Anthony DysonandRyan Rhoten. All of these require hard work, being bold, and putting yourself out there. Go ahead and demonstrate your expertise even if you have no experience. Marc Miller Like what you just read? Share it with your friends using the buttons above. Like What You Read? The field of carbon accounting encompasses developing carbon inventories, conducting carbon audits, and accounting for the costs of carbon offset trading into business strategy. The voluntary treaties on carbon reduction, such as the Kyoto Protocol, are likely to become mandatory and their reach will spread worldwide, so until global warming is dealt with, carbon accountants will be in high demand all over the planet. Similar to a carbon accountant, a sustainability officer oversees the companys carbon footprint, but also implements strategies to shrink it across the entire scope of operations, from reducing paper waste at the office printer to sourcing materials in order to cut down on shipping distances, from saving on lighting costs to buying or even producing green energy. Teleworkers also save companies money: for every three teleworkers, one desk can be discarded, for example, cutting back on rent and utilities. In addition, time saved from commuting translates to extra time for employees to enjoy the rest of their lives making them happier, more productive employees (in fact, teleworkers are up to 40% more productive than those chained to the cubicle). Alternative Currency Speculator Crowdfunding Specialist Kickstarter and other crowdfunding platforms have proven that you dont need to know venture capitalists to launch a new product (or make a movie, for that matter). But the money involved in crowdfunding is now well into the hundreds of millions, so professional managers are taking notice. As the concept becomes more widespread, and the competition between crowdfunding platforms increases, there will be a growing need for specialists capable of guiding a new company along. They will still need traditional education in accounting and finance, combined with intimate knowledge of these alternative sources and networks of contacts specific to them.
